Coaster Update and Hollow Form Concept update

 Got to my laser cutting appointment to cut out the pieces for my coaster 





Assembled the pieces for my coaster, the notches and cutouts fit perfectly. However, I used painter's tape to keep them in place while the white glue dried. The plywood still had some warping that made it not lay flat. Now I'm just letting it dry, the burnt smell of the laser cut wood smells really bad, I think that's my gripe with laser cut wood. 
Made some concepts on hollow object forms, I wanted to experiment with stars and flower shapes. 
I put them to test in PrusaSlicer, Its still pretty hard to tell for me whether each slice will be able print properly. I saw some little gaps between layers, also not sure what to look for to make sure it would print well.

Refinements, considerations, and final renders of Laser Cut coasters

From the Thumbnails, knowing that we were doing Laser Cutting, I wanted to do the Cage coaster idea however switch up it. I like the idea of having a roof for my drink. I also wanted to give engravings a shot. So I decided to design a little gazebo coaster, it has a stand and roof to cover your drink. Yeah it takes some space on your desk for a dedicated spot for your yummy drink.   Sketch Plans, sketching the panels and layers.    Modeling in Rhino-- it was fun to use the Mirror command and have rounded curves to make the engraving designs. I struggled a lot with accidently being stuck in the middle of a command, and then making things copy and move. Finding that there were constant open curves and duplicates was the struggle. I was able to get it in the end, and started extruding the curves to solids to make my render. Voxel Model Render: Tranquil Moon

  I refined my Voxel model by merging the pixels with BooleanUnion, and it helped a lot with fixing the funny black squares in the render. It made the final Moon look as one and the glass texture less messy. I approached the lighting and camera views to capture the crystalline effect that the voxel glass moon had when light was reflected in the material.    I focused the camera where there was a lot of interactions between light and Voxels, and not so much in the flatter front planes.  What I learned from rendering: I love glass and reflected lights 😋😋 they make for such cool interactions in the models when rendered in  Raytraced.  The crystalline moon voxel to me is like restful tranquillity, I just feel like floating on a plane of serene waters with this exact skyline and moon in the background. I’m like a magpie, shiny, crystal glittery things I love, of course it’s pink too ^^

Coaster Update

 Update on my Laser cut coaster, I resized the linework to reflect the thickness of TroWood plywood, because the Birch plywood I originally wanted to work with was not in stock. I rearranged the linework to fit the 12"x 24" plywood dimensions, having to have another file for the remaining cuts. I would need to buy another piece of TroWood for that second file. And I booked the appointment for Laser Cutting this Wednesday.  Modeling 3D to check if the new measurements align.  Arranging linework for Laser cut PDF 12"x 24" TroWood. Laser-cut Ready Vector PDF
